The SUNFET guitar pedal is a preamp inspired by the Sunn Model T amplifier.
It will run as an Overdrive or Distortion, but performs at it's best when used as a Preamp.
The Sunn Model T is an amp issued in the late 60s, created by a bassist who found his amp was not powerful enough for large stages. Thus, he issued this 150W all-tubes beast that was inspired by the Fender Bassman 5F6A.
It was also usable by guitarists, and they quickly realized that the insane amount of bass and
power delivered by this amp was perfect for heavy rock like doom or stoner rock. It became
very famous later when the band Sunn o))) used it to play incredibly loud and heavy music
during their concerts. It is now very rare and expensive, so hopefully this preamp will give
you a taste of this beast!
The SUNFET reproduces the original schematic of the preamp, replacing tubes by JFET J201'S,
with some minor twists to make it gainier.
It can of course sound bassy, heavily saturated, but it is also very usable in lighter settings
for a nice warm crunch that will be perfect for rock and hard rock. The 3 band EQ is also very useful to switch from a heavy scooped sound to a more mids / treble overdrive
