We proudly present this exquisite PRS McCarty 594 10 Top in McCarty Tobacco Sunburst, a stunning example of PRS's dedication to craftsmanship and tonal excellence. This solid body electric guitar features a breathtaking flame maple top, complemented by a comfortable mahogany body and neck, and a rosewood fingerboard. The combination of these high-quality materials ensures that this instrument not only looks magnificent but also feels and sounds exceptional. Weighing in at 8lbs 2oz, it strikes a perfect balance between substance and playability.
The McCarty 594 is designed to be a versatile, vintage-inspired instrument that offers effortless playability. It features a bound 22-fret Pattern Vintage neck and a slightly thicker back, which enhances tone and sustain. This design ensures that the guitar plays in tune and is intonated along the entire length of the neck, providing a familiar and comfortable playing experience. The 58/15 LT pickups, which have undergone the TCI (tuned capacitance and inductance) process, deliver rich, authentic humbucking tones as well as nuanced, sweet single-coil sounds. The dual volume and push/pull tone controls allow for seamless transitions between these sonic territories.
The McCarty 594 is anchored by a zinc two-piece bridge and vintage-style tuners, which contribute to its exceptional sustain and tonal character. PRS has updated this model with TCI-tuned pickups and a nitro over cellulose (CAB) finish, further enhancing its tonal qualities and aesthetic appeal. As Paul Reed Smith himself has noted, the updates to the McCarty family, including the bridge, nut, and tuners, make a significant difference in the guitar's tone, providing longer sustain and more character.
In the late 1980s, Paul Reed Smith called on Ted McCarty to consult with him on guitar design and production techniques. Ted not only served as a mentor but became a great friend to Paul and everyone at PRS. In 1994, PRS released the first McCarty, an instrument that incorporated the full spectrum of techniques and knowledge Paul had gained from Ted as well as his own experiences as a guitar builder.
For 2024, PRS Guitars is updating the tuning machines on many of their Core guitars. The new Wing buttons are designed to echo the 12th fret bird wingspan design and are lighter in weight than their metal predecessors. This reduction in weight helps the guitar ring longer and at a more musical note, enhancing its overall tonal quality. The removal of the tuner’s locking feature on non-tremolo-equipped guitars further decreases their weight, contributing to the instrument's resonance and sustain.
